Taeyeon Kim

Biography

Taeyeon Kim is a robotics engineer and researcher specializing in autonomous systems, robotic perception, and field robotics. He received his M.S. in Electrical Engineering from KAIST, where his research focused on autonomous aerial robotics and computer vision.

As a Visiting Scholar at the Blue Marble Space Institute of Science (BMSIS), Taeyeon has worked on NASA’s BRAILLE project under Dr. Jennifer Blank, contributing to the development of concepts of operations for future planetary cave exploration using quadruped robots. His work included developing electro-optical sensing systems and deploying deep-learning-based computer vision models on NVIDIA Jetson platforms for detecting potential biomarkers.

As a member of the JPL-led Team CoSTAR, he participated in the DARPA Subterranean Challenge, contributing to multi-camera sensing, object detection pipelines, and RF-based target localization for a fleet of autonomous search-and-rescue robots.

His research goal is to develop robots for missions that exceed human physical limits or pose significant risks to humans, ultimately contributing to a better future for humanity.
